We know all that we know and we can only imagine what we do not know.

New Cup For Tea

I was out, what I like to call "bummin", at random rummages found while aimlessly driving around with my caring mother and darling son today. Did not have any destination or goal in my to mind other than to be in the moment of life and enjoying those close to me. I came upon this beautiful big blue tea cup.

This tea cup not only called to me but I also felt this immediate magnetism towards the cup in the moment I saw it. It was not part of a set but just there by itself. Now this tea cup is not your average size tea cup but fits a few more ounces of delicious steeped earthen goodness. I simply fell in love the instant we met and I can foresee this blue vessel sometimes being filled with soups made from the crock pot come fall.

The following quotes were collected in honor of my new cup:

Tea is a cup of life. ~Author Unknown

Tea should be taken in solitude. ~C.S. Lewis

If man has no tea in him, he is incapable of understanding truth and beauty.
~Japanese Proverb

Tea is liquid wisdom. ~Anonymous

Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. ~Thich Nat Hahn

The first cup moistens my lips and throat. The second cup breaks my loneliness. The third cup searches my barren entrail but to find therein some thousand volumes of odd ideographs. The fourth cup raises a slight perspiration - all the wrongs of life pass out through my pores. At the fifth cup I am purified. The sixth cup calls me to the realms of the immortals. The seventh cup - ah, but I could take no more! I only feel the breath of the cool wind that raises in my sleeves. Where is Elysium? Let me ride on this sweet breeze and waft away thither. ~Lu Tung,

Tea is liquid wisdom. ~Anonymous

Each cup of tea represents an imaginary voyage. ~Catherine Douzel

Tea is drunk to forget the din of the world. ~T'ien Yiheng

Think women have achieved equality? Think again.

Gender Roles
1. Men are the default and women are the Other (and therefore lesser).
2. Being called “girly” or a “sissy” or “pussy” are some of the worst insults you can give a man.
3. When a woman shows confidence in herself, she is said to “have balls”, or conversely she is a “man-eater”, “ball-buster”, or a “bitch” because she was “too” assertive.
4. Men are beat up, ridiculed, or made fun of for being “effeminate” and women are beat up, ridiculed, or made fun of for being “masculine”.
5. Many people get angry when a woman questions the intentions behind a “chivalrous” act from a man.
6. There are men who refuse “chivalrous” acts from a woman, such as refusing to walk through a door that a woman holds open for them, while believing that it is rude for a woman to exercise the same right to refuse.
7. Women can’t express anger without the very real fear of being accused of “hysterics” or being “shrill”.
8. Women get scolded for “un-ladylike” behaviour: using coarse language, talking frankly about sex or other “impolite” topics, confidently voicing one’s dissenting opinion, etc.
9. People continue to believe and perpetuate gender essentialism based on bad science or using actual studies to “prove” the innateness of gender roles when the study itself supports no such thing.

Handmade Gifts

I find myself making handmade gifts for birthdays for those close to me. Not only because I love to create but it also provides a little something special into the gift. My friends and family often tell me that the handmade gift meant more to them because I took the time to make it. My sister's birthday is coming up and I made her this cute almost vintage looking pendant out of sculpy oven baked clay and painted it with acrylics. I also could not help but to decorate an old gift box with scraps of fabric and a few buttons.

Art Therapy Card Collage Swap #2

These past few days I was able to play in my studio while participating in my first artist's trading card swap with art therapists from around the world. The theme was "Collage Unleashed" and I obsessively rampaged through magazine after magazine to decide what message did I want my cards to visually represent. I have always been an artist before I began to major in art therapy but each time I am in my studio or doodling I am pleasantly reminded of how calming art making is. It restores balance deep in my soul; I find that place between my "self" and my thoughts. Since the beginning of my studies in art therapy I have begun to communicate my developing art therapeutic philosophy through my own art work. Each card represents one of the few developing core beliefs I am finding that is integral to the art therapeutic process not only in the role of the art therapist but also what hidden undiscovered treasures lie ahead for the client.

To Be Inspired...

...by the role as an art therapist and let that inspiration carry through each intention with listening, observing, and caring for the benefit of your client or group.

Believe In...

...yourself and encourage the client or group to believe in themselves. Help them discover hidden talents and skills.

To Imagine...

...possibilities, see alternative options, and problem solve life's challenges.

Then Create...

...visually and take action!

Please feel free to visit and see all the awesome cards made during this swap, Art Therapy Alliance ATC Swap #2 hosted by Melanie Glassey!

Intuition by Visualange

We are all intuitive by nature; it is so intrinsic to who you are and how we relate to our world. It comes through our feelings and emotions. When we dream our spirit reconnects to our unconsciousness and the cosmic energy source. It can recharge us and remind us that we are spiritual beings. Art therapy can help us tap into the flow of life energy force by creating an atmosphere that is sacred and find peace while creatively making art. The Tarot have a card called, the star, that symbolizes the balancing of emotions and is called a card of hope. Most importantly it means to have trust and confidence in the future that there will be new perception of mental and spiritual things. Intuition will be heightened. I believe it is imperative for me as art therapist to be an empathetic listener, good observer of behavior, but also remain connected intuitively to the universe.
